Animal Assembly

Animal Assembly will be my first officially published game. It will be under the name of Magic Egg Games, currently consisting of me and my friend Kelly, working primarily on programming and art respectively. It's planned to enter Early Access on Steam in the summer of 2024.

The game will be a roguelike deckbuilder where you use cards to build mechs which automatically battle enemies, aiming for the ultimate goal: winning the Grand Tournament.

Gameplay

The core gameplay consists of two phases: Build and Battle.
During the Build phase, you will use cards to build the mechs. Heads are responsible for the base stats and actions the mech will perform during battle while the other parts increase stats and modify the actions. Some cards also give the mech special abilities. You'll need to make sure to build a deck that's both strong and versatile. You only get a limited number of discards, so it's essential to have a deck that can work well even if the cards you draw are not ideal.

During the Battle phase, the mechs you created will battle with the opponent's enemies. As of right now, there's no way to influence the outcome of the battle, so you'd best make sure that the mechs you created are strong enough to overcome the challenge. It's possible that consumables will be added later on, though these would likely need to be used before the battle to keep the essence of the Battle phase of requiring good insight on your mechs' strength.
Aside from the core gameplay, there'll also be a map with various different nodes, similar to most roguelikes.

Development

Development started last year, progress being quite sporadic due to my many other responsibilities. The first prototype was released on my birthday, 7 October. Work on it sped up slightly after this, but it'll still be a while until it's ready for Early Access. A lot of the graphics are still placeholders, and many cards are still to be added.

You can find the development logs and current public prototype on the Itch page.
